The <C://>Hawks, South Lakes HS Robotics Team, participated at the Reston at Centreville FTC Tournament last Saturday, January 26. This was the snow date for the tournament originally scheduled for January 13 at our school and canceled for bad weather.
“The <C://>Hawks did a phenomenal job, better than any competition before. The team placed second, winning four out of five matches. After that the team lost in the semifinals to the Robo Lord’s Alliance” said Troy Elliott, Hardware Lead.
Although the team didn’t end number one on the field competition, their hard work in design, engineering and outreach, and their “gracious professionalism,” the staple of all FIRST activities, earned them the Think Award and a second place in the Innovate Award.
This is the second Think Award the team wins this season. The first Think Award they won at the Centreville Qualifier, where they also secured their spot at the Virginia State Tournament that will take place this Saturday February 2 in Mechanicsville. The Think Award is given to a team “that best reflects the journey the team took as they experienced the engineering design process during the build season. The Engineering section of the notebook is the key reference for judges to help identify the most deserving team. The team’s Engineering section must focus on the design and build stage of the team’s robot.”
Good luck at the State Tournament <C://>Hawks!
